ENGLISH COUNTRY DANCE—Friday, February 8, 2013
There will be an English Country Dance on Friday, February 8, 2013. An introductory session to some of the moves will start at 7:00 pm, dancing for real at 7:30. The usual place, First Christian Church, 10th & Walnut in downtown Columbia. $7 if you’re over 26, $4 if you’re 16-25 or have a student ID, under 16 free.
Music this month will be by the wonderful Dey family (Austin, Cabe, Laurel, Clara, and possibly joined by Alyssa). They’re all brothers and sisters and great musicians. Come for the music if not the dancing. Calling by Jim Thaxter. All dances will be taught with a walk-through before the music starts.
English Country Dancing is a beautiful relative of contra dancing, but enough different that you’ll want to come to the session at 7:00 to become familiar with the figures. We’ve had some great attendance at the dances we’ve had so far, but there’s always room for more people to join in the fun.
HALLSVILLE SQUARE DANCE—Saturday, February 9, 2013
This is a family event. No alcohol or smoking is permitted. There is no admission charge. If you wish, donations will be accepted to help defray costs.
The music jam session is 4-6 PM. Carry-in food is available at 6-7 PM. Dancing begins at 7 PM and continues until 10:30 PM. You may come and go at anytime during this period, 4-10:30 PM, that suits your schedule. Feel free to bring your instrument, if you would like to play in the 4-6 PM jam sessions. You do not have to be a skilled musician. The same applies to dancing. Dance instruction is available if you need a little help. You are welcome to sit, visit, and watch if you wish. If you would like to bring some friends, they will be welcome. Children are welcome.
Location of Hallsville Community Center: In Hallsville, turn east at the signal light located at the intersection of Highway 124 and Route OO onto Route OO and proceed across railroad to first turn. The Center is located on your right near the base of a cell phone antenna tower.
