Thom, Marcie, Rebecca, and Tom – serving up some lively 32-bar tunes for your dancing pleasure.

Contra Dance – The band 32 Bartenders (Tom Verdot on fiddle and banjo; Rebecca Logan on flute and whistle; Thom Howard on guitar, mandolin, and banjo; and Marcie McGuire on keyboard), along with caller Wade Pearson from St. Louis, will provide lively music for Mid-Missouri Traditional Dancers’ (MMTD) eighth contra dance of the season on Friday, December 20.

English Country Dance – The 32 Bartenders, with featured caller Jim Thaxter, will also play for an English Country Dance on Saturday, December 21.

Both dances will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Ballroom Academy of Columbia, 3910 Peachtree Drive. Admission to the dances is $8 for the public, $5 for students and ages 16-25. Admission is free for children 15 and under.

MMTD’s dances are fun, community-oriented events that do not require prior dance experience. Individuals of all ages are welcome, as well as couples and groups. Every dance is taught and called throughout the evening to live music. Beginners are encouraged to come to an introductory lesson at 7:00 p.m. Dancers should wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and soft-soled or leather-soled shoes to preserve the floor—no spike heels or cowboy boots. (Please carry-in appropriate dance shoes as needed.)

MMTD sponsors regular contra and English Country dances throughout the year. Why? Because people have been known to have fun moving to music.
