Two contra dances: Tuesday, May 17 and Friday, May 20

Dancing by the Riverside is back!  Join us, weather permitting, on Tuesday, May 17, 6:30-9:30 for our first dance of the year at Cooper’s Landing.  Live music will feature John White on fiddle, along with David Cavins, Amber Gaddy, and Bill Foley. No admission charge, but we’ll be passing the hat for the musicians. Food is available from Chim’s Thai Kitchen, or from the general store’s menu. (Cooper’s requests no carry in food or beverages.)  Check here for any cancellation announcements. It’s always a great time dancing along the river at sunset! We’ll be dancing there every third Tuesday through August.

Our regular Third Friday contra dance will take place on May 20, featuring the music of Scherer’s Hotshots, with calling by Jim Thaxter.  The dance starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Ballroom Academy of Columbia, 3910 Peachtree Drive. Beginners are encouraged to come to an introductory lesson at 7:00 p.m.  Admission is $8 for the public, $5 for students and ages 16-25, with free admittance for children 15 and under. Dancers should wear lightweight, comfortable clothing and soft-soled or leather-soled shoes to preserve the floor—no spike heels or cowboy boots. (Please carry-in appropriate dance shoes as needed.)

All MMTD’s dances welcome all ages. No partner or experience is needed. Every dance is taught and called throughout the evening to live music.
